The commune of Aydat


Aydat is home to a 14km-long basalt formation originating in the Puy de Vache and Puy de Lassolas.


This natural dam created the Aydat and Cassière lakes.







Take a stroll through the cobbled streets of mediaeval city of Besse, with its quaint cottages and houses made of volcanic rock!

Besse is also home to the Ski Museum, Queen Margot’s house, and many other destinations.

Besse hosts a summer festival every first Sunday in August!





Listed as one of the most beautiful villages in France, Saint Saturnin is home to one of the 5 most important Romanesque churches in the region, as well as an imposing Royal Caste which one played host to French Queen Catherine de’ Medici!

Get lost in the labyrinth of winding alleyways and stone arches, and admire the stunning sculptures crafted by Yves Guérin!








Another equally beautiful village worth visiting is Usson, which offers great views over the Monts Dores and the Chaine des Puys.

It features the ruins of a mediaeval fortress!



Do not hesitate to go and discover other beautifull villages of France such as Charroux, Blesle...


The Castle of Murol


The village of Murol is home to 12th-Century castle perched on a basalt rockface! The castle is open to the public, with both guided tours and themed visits with actors in period costumes.

The castle also puts on falconry displays and evening activities during the summer months.



There are a number of other castles to visite along the Puy de Dôme Castle Trail!
